Because much of the Pacific consists of small, remote islands it isn't practical to invest in the sort of infrastructure required for a rail network. Although both Fiji and Hawaii have small railway systems, these consist primarily of a sugar trains and limited tourist services, however New Zealand's rail network is extensive enough to be considered as a serious alternative to the bus.
