Ferry Travel in Fiji

There are scheduled ferry services between the major islands which are supplemented by smaller boats operated by various resorts, including some of the backpacker resorts in the Yasawa group.

The major scheduled ferry routes run between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, Ovalau and Kadavu and between Vanua Levu and Tavaeuni.

Services between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are among the most frequent - connecting the two major islands in Fiji. Boats to Nabouwalu on the west coast of Vanua Levu depart from either Ellington Wharf or Natovi Landing on Viti Levu and boats to Savusavu depart from either Natovi Landing or Suva. Ferries also depart Suva for Kadavu and boats to Ovalau depart from Natovi Landing and Bau Landing on the eastern coast of Viti Levu. Taveuni is accessible from Buca Bay and Savusavu on Vanua Levu.

Although it is probably best to avoid boat travel in bad weather, the services on board are generally okay.
