Driving in French Polynesia

If you want to explore the islands away from the resort areas, then you will need to rent a car or scooter, although it can be an expensive way of getting around. There are plenty of car rental agencies on the main islands, although you can not rent scooters on Tahiti.

Traffic is generally pretty light once you get away from Papeete and the road conditions make driving a breeze. Traffic drives on the right.
