Air travel

Because of the large distances involved between various islands in the Pacific, air travel is a well developed way of getting around. Many of the minor islands are served by small commuter planes although busier routes, such as those in Hawaii and New Zealand, are operated by bigger jet airliners.

Despite the well developed nature of the air travel industry in the Pacific region, it can be an expensive way of getting around. Unfortunately in many cases the plane is the only practical way to get to the more remote islands.

However air travel is an affordable way to get around the more developed areas, particularly Fiji, Hawaii and New Zealand. Hawaii in particular has frequent flights between the islands and a competitive air travel industry which makes the plane the way to get around.
