BUS

Although it is primarily a suburban bus network, The Bus operates bus services throughout Oahu with buses from other parts of the island terminating downtown, in Waikiki and at the Ala Moana Center.

AIR

Honolulu International Airport (website www.hawaii.gov/dot/airports/hnl/) is one of the busiest hubs in the Pacific with the majority of trans-Pacific flights stopping off here. The airport also handles a very frequent schedule of inter-island flights with several flights an hour to each of the major islands.

The Bus routes 19 and 20 run between the airport and Waikiki via downtown Honolulu. There are also buses to Pearl Harbor. It can sometimes be a problem taking luggage on The Bus especially during peak hours.

If you have a lot of bags, you can try taking one of the more expensive shuttle buses. Another option is one of the free shuttle buses operated by some backpackers hostels which have beds to fill.
