This charming village of 3300 is the hub of the Kowhai Coast, and a popular getaway for Aucklanders, but still isn’t a major stop on the international tourist trail. It’s got some historical architecture and attractions, numerous cafes and galleries, and a nice riverbank walkway along the Mahurangi River. Warkworth is a good base for exploring the Kowhai Coast and the developing wine industry around nearby Matakana.
