Southland

Southland, the South Island’s southernmost tip, combines the windswept coastline of the Catlins, the dramatic fiords and pristine wilderness of Fiordland National Park and the rugged beauty of Stewart Island. The area is largely inaccessible national park and offers some of the most fascinating wildlife and ancient landscapes in New Zealand. You will need to put in some extra effort (or cash) to experience all this region has to offer, but in the end, it is one of the more rewarding travel destinations you can find. Milford Sound and the Milford Track are the region’s two most famous attractions.
