This small town lies at the heart of the Martinborough wine region, which is renowned for its excellent pinot noirs. It is a lovely small town with restored buildings and a charming village square and there are several upmarket cafés and wine bars. It is a popular destination with day trippers from Wellington.

Coming & going
Local buses connect Martinborough with other towns in the Wairarapa region.
The most useful route is bus 205, which goes to Featherston where you can transfer to train services to Wellington.

While it’s lots of fun to crawl from one winery to another sampling their produce, if time or access to transport is an issue you can come to the Martinborough Wine Centre and taste wines from a variety of Martinborough and Wairarapa wineries. A produce and craft market is held here every Sunday.
