Hot Water Beach

This unique beach, 10km south of Hahei, allows you to dig your own hot spring-fed thermal pool in the sand two hours on either side of low tide. The water temperature can get up to around 65°C. In the summer, the beach gets quite crowded with people digging away, an amusing sight in itself. Shovels can easily be hired at the beach.

Conditions aren’t always favourable and the hot water doesn’t appear around 30% of the time, particularly in winter.
