This small town is close to the southern extremity of Kaipara Harbour. It was settled by a Scottish timber miller who built a house that he named “Helen’s Villa” after his wife; shortly thereafter the settlement became known as Helensville. The town is a centre for the surrounding dairy farming and timber industries and some travellers visit the hot springs at Parakai, 3km from Helensville.
Auckland’s suburban rail network has recently been extended to Helensville. The one-way fare from Auckland’s Britomart Transport Centre to Helensville is $9.10.
