Granity & Hector

The seaside townships of Hector and Granity are 35km north of Westport on State Highway 67. These old mining towns are full of quaint little cottages and art and craft galleries. Granity houses the Northern Buller Museum, while Hector has a small country music museum, a nice beach with picnic areas, and a summertime beach café. This area is home to the endangered Hector dolphins, and it is possible to swim with these playful mammals when the water is warm. The area has a beautiful backdrop of high forested mountains, and many travellers come for the famous walking tracks, including the Charming Creek and Cape Foulwind Walkways.
