Cook Islands
This remote group of islands in the South Pacific is a beautiful paradise without the highrise tourist infrastructure that spoils other Pacific nations. Although the Cook Islands cover a large area of the South Pacific, the country consists of just 124 islands with the vast majority of tourists visiting only Rarotonga.
Although Rarotonga is the major island with an international airport and the majority of hotels and resorts, it is still a laid-back place which feels a world away from busier islands such as Oahu, Hawaii or Tahiti. Despite the laid-back feel to the place, Rarotonga has a pretty good infrastructure with plenty of places to eat and drink, some good value hostels and excellent snorkelling.
Of the other islands, Aitutaki is the most popular - famous for its beautiful lagoon.
