Aitutaki
Aitutaki
Known throughout the Pacific for its beautiful lagoon, Aitutaki is the most visited island in the Cooks after Rarotonga.
Most of the accommodation and other services are located around the main village of Arutanga on the eastern side of the island away from the lagoon. Arutanga has a couple of general stores, while most of the places to eat are located to the north of town. Heading north you'll find a few local fast food places and further out of town the two main restaurants - Ralphies and Crushers.
There are good opportunities for exploring the lagoon - kayaks are available from some of the hotels and there are also boat trips available to the motus (small islands) in the lagoon. Most of these excursions are full-day trips with include lunch on Tapuaetai (One Foot Island).
