Ahipara

Ahipara is 14km from Kaitaia, but this small village at the southern end of Ninety Mile Beach feels like it’s on another planet. This is a ruggedly blissful beach town with awesome surf at Shipwreck Bay and gorgeous sunset views. Surfcasting, dune surfing, and quad biking are big activities here; you can also ride horses or sand yachts on the beach. It’s not as easily accessible as Kaitaia, but Ahipara makes a great alternative if you plan to base yourself in the area while arranging travel up farther north.
